SAVE Students Act-Approved Programs Offered Through Child Guidance & Family Solutions
CGFS's evidence-based prevention services benefit the students and school districts of Greater Akron. Ohio's SAVE Students Act, also known as Ohio's enacted House Bill 123, addresses school security and youth suicide awareness and training. The "Botvin Lifeskills" and "Sources of Strength" programs offered through CGFS meet the required program standards the Act mandates for schools.
“Child Guidance & Family Solutions understands the school year can be challenging,” said Karen Talbott, President & CEO of CGFS. “We help the students of Greater Akron by providing innovative and effective mental health services through partnerships with local school districts.”
Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) is a substance use prevention program aimed at reducing the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and violence. Many schools have identified successfully incorporating this program into health classes.
The Sources of Strength program is a strengths-based, suicide prevention program. It trains adult advisors and peer leaders in the school who can continue to implement strategic messaging campaigns focusing on changing unhealthy norms and culture and preventing suicide, bullying, and substance use through peer social networks.
School districts interested in learning how their students can benefit from these programs should contact Child Guidance & Family Solutions at 330.762.0591 or info@cgfs.org to schedule a meeting.
