Ask The Doctor

Don't Worry
Q. I used to be sad and worry a lot before my parents got divorced. I'm tense and nervous all the time and can't sleep well. Now I'm wondering if something is wrong?

A. We all feel anxious or lonely from time to time. But if those moods are more extreme and start to get in the way of your daily interactions, you may need help. You may have what's called an anxiety disorder. This happens when we feel overly anxious, nervous or scared, and it is usually a response to a stressful situation (something that happened at school, for example, or your parents divorcing). We have several programs where you can get help to deal with your anxiety. For more information, contact us via email or call 330-762-0591.

Double Trouble
Q. My son was diagnosed with ADHD and we were all trying to deal with that. But now he's turned to drugs. I don't know what to do?

A. Your child is not alone. Millions of Americans struggle with mental heath issues and substance use. This is known as having a Co-occurring Disorder. Recent studies show that:

  • 43% of adolescents receiving mental health services also struggle with substance abuse.
  • As many as 50% of substance-abusing juvenile offenders have ADHD.
We offer counseling and treatment that can help your child, and we can also help you find a support group to ease your concerns. For more information, contact us via email or call 330-762-0591.
